Young Band Repertoire Form

Picture
Dr. Brian Harris, Director of Bands at McLennan Community College in Texas, was gracious enough to provide a copy of his Young Band Analysis form.  Please take a moment to check out Dr. Harris' publications at Bandroom.com

Articulations as icons (click image for .pdf)

I created a worksheet which allows students to visually distinguish the differences between articulations.

1. Regular (unaccented)
2. Accented
3. Marcato
4. Staccato
5. Tenuto

Note that each articulated note begins at the same time (they are vertically aligned).  Each note differs by its enunciation (not attack) and the amount of space between the notes.  I find that I can stimulate more critical thinking by having the students distinguish the differences in order to correctly identify the articulation.
